And now here is the host of Jeopardy!, Alex Trebek!
Alex: Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Hello and welcome to Jeopardy!, America’s favorite answer-and-question game. Yes, we give the answers, and then it’s up to these three contestants to come up with the questions.
Our categories today are Yoyo Coverlets, Chocolate, Quilts, Blogging, and Vintage Linens
Alex: Let’s begin. Please remember to phrase your responses in the form of a question.
Contestant: I’ll take Yoyo Coverlets for $100, Alex.
Contestant: What is “How many yoyos in the coverlet?”
Alex: Good!
Contestant: Yoyo Coverlets for $200, Alex.
Contestant: What is “How much does that many yoyos weigh?”
Alex: Yes! Next category?
Contestant: Let’s try Yoyo Coverlets for $300.
Contestant: What is “How big is each yoyo?”
Alex: Right!
Contestant: Yoyo Coverlets for $400, please.
Contestant: What is “When was the coverlet started?”
Alex: That’s correct. We have a minute to go. And now the last clue . . .
Contestant: What is “Where did the yoyos travel, as they were sewn?”
Alex: Good. And now it’s time for Final Jeopardy!
Alex: The category is still Yoyo Coverlets!
Players, I’ll give you the clue, and you will then have 30 seconds to write down your response. Be sure to phrase it in the form of a question.
Here is the clue.
You have 30 seconds, players. Good luck.
Contestant: I wrote, “When was the coverlet finally finished?”
Alex: Yes! Contestants, you all did very well, very well, indeed. But, our winner isn’t even here today. Our winner is Kerry Sanger! She wins for finishing the Yoyo Coverlet!
Alex: We’ll see all of you next time on Jeopardy! So long, everybody!
The colors are beautiful!!! Love it. How big is it? A super accomplishment. Congrats!
Thanks so much! It’s twin-bed size–I couldn’t bring myself to go any bigger . . .
SUPER GORGEOUS!!!
Thanks, Geri–I started it because the little yo-yos made such a nice portable project. And then it grew . . .
Oh my gosh, but I am impressed – again! I cannot imagine the process you undertook to complete that project. We need more details – how many, how long, where is it going?
Most of the answers to the questions are in the Jeopardy clues–I went back, after I could see I was confusing people, and made the post clearer. There are 1575 yo-yos in there and it took about 2.5 years, although I worked on many other things along the way.
Sadly, American game shows aren’t one of my cultural reference points so this is a little lost on me. But it’s all good fun anyway.
Sometimes we Americans just gotta be American! Sorry if this didn’t make a lot of sense to you!
Fair enough. It was tantalising….
And I should have said, your work and colours are gorgeous anyway.
Oh, thanks! I am kind of glad to have it done but a little bit bereft . . .
Definitely a winner! A marathon win as well as a Jeopardy win. It weighs 5.5 lbs? And each yo-yo is 1.75 inches? Impressive. Now I am wondering if the dollar amounts are the labour costs or the material costs or both. 😉
Yes, I went back and made the post clearer after I could see I was confusing people. Sometimes I try to be too clever for my own good!
It was very clever. 🙂
Amazing!
Thanks–it makes me smile, now that it is finished!
👏👏👏👏 congratulations, Kerry!! It’s lovely! Are you going to put it on the back of a couch for display?
Thanks, Deb. I honestly don’t know what I will do with it. I have cats that think it is very interesting so I may just fold it up and put it away. I find that once I’m done with a project, I kind of lose interest in it . . .
Wow! I admire your perseverance. I guess I’ll stop whining about the 200 rows remaining on the tunic I’m knitting 🙂
The members of my sewing group would tell you about the whining I’ve been doing! And, if I had to knit that much, whining wouldn’t even begin help!
Oh my goodness…you did it!! It looks fantastic!!! And I had a good laugh…but sadly now I will humm that darn tune all day…xo Johanna
I know–that tune is stuck in my head, too! Thanks for your enthusiasm–you’ve been here the whole time I’ve been working on this!
Good idea to use the aqua yoyos to fence in and organize the other colors. Now, once the thrill of finishing this lovely begins to pall, what are your plans for it?
I have no plans for it! Isn’t that awful? It fits a daybed on our porch but that cats will ruin it . . .
My Mom would have gotten such a kick out of this post–she and Dad watched Jeopardy all the time. And her on-going project was a yo-yo quilt. She hadn’t gotten very far but it traveled everywhere with her. She made me a yo-yo Halloween hanging a couple years ago too–time to get that out. Your quilt is wonderful–truly a tour de force!
Thanks, Jean! Do you have your mother’s yo-yos, beyond the ones in your wall hanging? You could sew them together! I actually have a whole bunch of vintage ones I bought at yard sales. Maybe I’ll go find them and sew them together. Or maybe not . . . 😉
No, they went on to other quilters. I do have one of her hand stitched quilts though.
Fun post Kerry, your creativity seems to be never-ending! I just love the Yo-yo’s. And I too wonder if you have a bed they will delight or if you have other plans??? Congrats on sticking to it, I recall your post about the yo-yo’s being fun to make, and not as fun to sew together. It is stunning!
Thanks, Tammy! The post was fun to do! And the yo-yos were fun, too, for most of the project. I really don’t know what I’ll do with the coverlet. I tend to be very process-focused, rather than product, so a lot of what I make ends up just put away.
Ah…this message became your theme for your new post. I hope to respond to it soon!
Well done,I remember when you started it because it was the perfect portable project. It prompted me to buy a couple of yo yo makers – still sitting in the drawer!
Yes! I remember you being upset about postage costs or something! The yo-yos really were perfect in terms of a project on the go. I will need to find a new portable project now . . .
Wow, that’s amazing and so beautiful! I love the color scheme.
I used most of those fabrics for a quilt I made years ago and had lots of leftovers. It was interesting that, when I needed to buy more fabric, I had a very hard time finding those kinds of colors. Fabric colors go in and out of fashion just like clothes!
After all these years, you’ve still got your creative writing skills, Kerry! 🙂
Hi, Eric–it’s been a long time! I hope all is well with you–thanks for coming back by here!
That is one impressive project!!! Wow!
Thanks so much! It’s a good example of the saying “many drops will turn the mill” . . .
I had not heard that saying but it’s a good one. You are quite welcome. 🙂
Yay!! Well done and congratulations! It looks wonderful 🙂 and as well as saying ‘Thank-goodness it’s finished!’ you must be feeling so proud of yourself for keeping going and not giving up.
Thanks, Clare! Yes, I’m pretty pleased on a number of levels, not the least of which is the fact that now I can move on to other projects that have been patiently waiting!
Nice to begin to clear the to-do heap!
HOLY GUACAMOLE!!!! I’ve been hanging out to see this finished – and was it worth the wait? You bet it was!! I just gasped Kerry – what a marathon piece of work – what a prize winner – what a show stopper!!! I’ve never seen Jeopardy – but I understand the format……. perfect for revealing the labour, the time and even a hint of the finished size………:-) I hope you are feeling not just relieved that you came to the end after two and a half years, but also a little bit in love with this beauty? Congratulations, well done and let’s all raise our glasses to the queen of yo-yo making!! Happy Dance ❤ ❤ ❤
Pauline, you are so sweet! You may be more excited than I am that this is finished. I am actually a bit verklempt . . . but I’ll get over it! It was fun to make and it does please me very much–I like the way it turned out, especially considering that it began with leftover fabric and simply as a way to have a project I could carry along with me. Thanks for cheering me on, the whole way!
Absolutely gorgeous work!
Thanks, Sheryl–I’m pretty thrilled with the outcome!
They look like little frosting dots/flourishes, and just as sweet! (I don’t know what those things are called.) That it quite an accomplishment and it sounds like you’re quite relieved! 🙂
Thanks, Melanie! I am relieved, in part because it was beginning to seem like it would never be finished and partly because I have a quilt top waiting to be quilted and I wouldn’t let myself start that until the yo-yos were done. Always a lot of projects in the queue . . .
Like Pauline, I have been waiting to see this post!
1575 YoYos. wow!!
What a beautiful accomplishment this is, Kerry. Congratulations and thank you for sharing.
I’ve been waiting to the post, too, as you can imagine! Knowing that I could show the finished product to all of you was a big motivation for me. Thanks for all the encouragement!
I bow to you, oh Queen!!👑👏😍
AH, yes, my loyal subjects! Thanks for your support in this, Kathy–it was fun to able to show it to you folks!
Congratulations! I love the Jeopardy theme to your post. And the coverlet is gorgeous!
Thanks, Susan–I had fun with the theme (although it didn’t make a lot of sense to the non-American readers–oops!) You’ve been watching this coverlet grow since its inception–thanks for the encouragement all along the way!
Beautiful, Kerry! So impressed with the undertaking of this huge project!
When I started, I just wanted a little project I could take with me when I traveled. But then people kept saying, “well, what are you going to DO with those yo-yos?” Ummmm . . . I’ll make a coverlet! Thanks for coming along for the ride!
“What is a yoyo?” Now, I know what those round things are.
Oscar
Yup–little fabric circles, to use up leftover scraps. This technique was very popular in the ’30s and ’40.
Great post! And I love the choices you made regarding the colour. I am curious about your next project.
Thanks, Marieken! The colors kind of kept me going, when I got bored with the yo-yos. I have about 10 projects underway–but that means nothing ever seems to get finished!
Congratulations on your achievement! And what a clever post. In fact, I read it while watching the real Jeopardy, my favorite show. Where will this treasured coverlet find its home?
Oh, good–you liked the Jeopardy theme! I have no idea what I’ll do with the coverlet, I’m sad to say! I kind of lose interest in these thing, once they’re done . . . .
How about putting it on your guest room bed?
The coverlet is amazing! I really love how you used the blue-greens to sash the blocks, but also included those colors within the blocks.
And I would really like to play the chocolate and vintage linen categories. And quilts. And might as well play blogging too. Now that you have time you used to devote to making yo-yos, coming up with those posts should be a cinch. 🙂
I like the sashing with the solid colors, too–I saw the idea on Pinterest, in a vintage quilt. And I saw the points at the border on Pinterest–who says we just “pin” stuff and never get back to it! I just realized I didn’t include a category for weaving! Too weird, since that’s what I seem to be most focused on these days.
Fun. You are creative in so many ways!
Thanks, Caroline–I do like to make odd and pretty things!
fantastic, congratulations – what’s next! Now when I’m watching Jeopardy I can imagine you watching it too!!
There are a lot of Jeopardy fans out there! What’s next is hand quilting a red and white quilt–I have a year until our guild show. And more weaving!!!!!
This is great and amazing work. I admire. Thanks and Love, nia
Thank you, Nia! It took a long time to finish!
I know, but worthy, so beautiful. You are welcome, Love, nia
Wow! Good for you! I can understand how you feel having completed the 21 year old hooked rug, though you beat me by quite a lot. Hope you love it!
I do love it–and I love that I persevered with it. There’s something about finishing a BIG project that is so satisfying (as you know)!
What a fun post! I liked the build-up to the final Jeopardy question – and the pictures of the YoYo coverlet. I’m impressed. It’s beautiful.
Thanks, Sheryl–the post was fun to write, and it is REALLY fun to be finished with that coverlet!
How Gorgeous! And even as a Brit I managed to follow along – very clever post! Shame if you’re going to pack it away though; it looks too beautiful to be hidden in a cupboard 🙂
Thank you! I know–I hate to put it away but I would also hate for my cats to find the texture interesting for purposes of claw sharpening. We’ll see–I need to ponder my options!

I’d missed this until now… just WOW!
Thanks, Jan–it was nice to be finished!
Hooray! You won, you won!
Lovely coverlet, by the way.
